Tackling structural failures on a massive scale requires an elite level of project orchestrating, specialised trades, and a relentless commitment to site compliance. Fixed was called upon to execute the emergency repair and reconstruction of a failing 2.4m high, 80-metre-long timber retaining wall that had reached the end of its 30-year lifespan. Left unchecked, the slipping structure posed an immediate threat to the structural integrity of the surrounding ground and aligning houses situated directly on the boundary line.
The physical constraints of this project were monumental. With zero access for traditional excavating machinery, our teams had to pioneer a purely non-destructive, manual approach. We utilised high-powered vacuum excavation over 11 intensive days to sink foundation holes over 2 metres deep. To combat dangerous working conditions and prevent localised land slips, custom shoring systems were engineered and installed to protect the site workforce and secure the foundations.
Material handling demanded immense physical stamina. Because machinery couldn’t reach the wall zone, every single concrete sleeper and structural steel post had to be walked into position entirely by hand, utilising dedicated 3-person teams. Pouring the foundations required pumping over 45m³ of concrete through specialised line pumps across extended distances. Given the extreme hazards and around-the-clock pressure, we operated under out-of-hours work permits with zero days off for 3 weeks, deploying a two-team rotation strategy to strictly manage trade fatigue.
What sets Fixed apart is our ability to bring a massive network of specialised trades under a single umbrella. We seamlessly brought together and orchestrated engineers, safety consultants, plumbers, carpenters, vacuum excavation contractors, concrete pump operators, and landscapers to fully restore and make good to the neighbouring residential properties. We engaged an independent safety auditor before and during the works to ensure flawless compliance. For the client, the experience was entirely hands-off: we supplied every consultant and engineering sign-off required, allowing them to step back with total peace of mind until we notified them that the impossible task was completely FIXED.
